Connecting box to wireless laptop

Can anybody give me a detailed guide to connect my laptop to my dbox so i can watch stuff already on the laptop eg dvd's avi's mpg's etc, have tried a guide already but with little sucess. If you can help please specify wether i need to connect to the box via crossover or ethernet cable.

you need a crossover cabel when you connect a PC/Laptop
you (normally) need a normal cable for a connection via router
