Automake ist in Version 1.9.6 vorhanden (Knoppix 5.01, läuft in einer VM, HDD-install)

In dem Schnippsel du reinkopiert hast, sind es ausschliesslich "warnings", keine "errors" (Fehler). "underquoted definition" kannst du ruhig ignorieren. "installing ..." sind auch keine Fehlern.

naja, die alten Makro passen dem neueren Automake nicht ganz

In der Regel fehlt dann in etwa [...] (also die eckigen Klammern).
Musst du mal in /usr/share/aclocal/xdelta.m4 Zeile 7 usw. schauen.

Automake1.9 beschwert sich über eine fehlende Qoutierung von AM_PATH_DELTA. Die Lösung ist einfach, AM_PATH_DELTA brauch nur in eckige Klammern gesetzt werden, eben quotiert.
