couple of questions
here's a couple of questions to those who have more experience
1) I am currently using a CIFS share on Win XP for directstream recording. After recording ~8Mb there's a message on screen that data could not be written fast enough. However, recording continues into another file and so on. Will using NFS improve things?
2) My ts streams play perfect on PC (mediaplayer classic), but there's lots of stuttering when playing them with Movieplayer from the CIFS share. When I remux the ts to an mpeg file, playback works fine, but this is play file via VLC. How come? Can NFS improve things here as well?
3) Recording ts streams with JtG streamserver and udrec 0.12f works best for me. There are some numeric parameters associated with udrec in JtG. Are the default numbers optimal or can tweaking these values improve the recording?
4) What value should the "use PMT" option in the misc settings menu on the box have for optimal streaming?
Thx to all who make using the dbox so much fun!

Reading and writing on a NFS-share is faster than on CIFS-shares.
There is a big thread on NFS, CIFS and network, but it is written entirely in German. To sum it up, petgun is collecting information on users network-benchmarks and their hard- and software.
If you want to have a look at it, here it is.

1)
CIFS is not optimal for streaming in the moment. The best results are reachable with a NFS mount. It's enaugh to setup a minimal- Server like http://www.eisfair.org on a 100-200MHZ Pentium
2) The freezing issue could cause from a bad record (CIFS record). For movieplayer also NFS should be first choice. If you record on an NFS mount you can directly playback from this mount with movieplayer. (SPTS have to be "on")
I'd made only CIFS tests until version 1.8.1. In YADI version 1.9.1 are some CIFS related improvements are realized. Maybe you should check a version above with your CIFS settings. (see also changelog)
cheers,
Tommy

For using NFS, try Microsoft SFU. Once configured, it's nearly as easy as using CIFS (i.e. activating a share with a contextmenu in explorer and so on).

hi,
you should use NFS. If you have W2kpro/XPpro give SFU (from MS$ but free) a try...for me the best! There is a smaller (20MB instead of 220MB)SFU-NFS-Server only Installer on DietmarW's Website http://tuxbox-images.mine.nu/dietmarw/html/mirror/ > Allgemeine Tools und Enpacker/S_F_U__N_F_S.ZIP with Instructions from Pedant.
cu,
peter

Once enabled the d-box should automatically update the soundsubchannels on change. This option is only required at "Neutrino".JOCKYW2001 hat geschrieben: One question left: what about "use PMT"

Du meinst das mit den AudioPIDs?
Habe das eben überflogen...
Nachtrag:
Oh gesehen...
Okay, new try:
The option "PMT_Update" tries to detect any change of the subchannels. This option is only required for "Neutrino". Otherwise you have to zap between the channels.
Enigma does not require this option.
So korrekt Mash?

Gut
